ASOS.com, one of our favourite online clothing shops, remains offline today as its owners continue to assess the damage caused by a fire started late on Friday night. More than 60 firefighters were called to the blaze in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Officials believe that the fire was started deliberately.
Thankfully, nobody was injured in the blaze but reports suggest that tonnes of clothing were destroyed. All orders have been temporarily suspended, though customers have been given the option of obtaining a refund if they do not wish to wait for the site to get back up and running. The company states that it will be operational again within the next few days.
ASOS has been one of Britain’s biggest retail success stories in recent years. Founded by Nick Robertson and Quentin Griffiths in 2000, the company is now estimated to be worth over £160 million, selling over 850 brands and shipping throughout the world.
