The world’s gone country & western crazy. Hayden Panettiere is blasting out country pop on the small screen in ABC’s Nashville and Taylor Swift is the new darling of the gossip mags. It won’t be long until we polish off our cowboy boots and start a mid 1990′s style line-dancing revival. On the sartorial front we’ll be jumping all over that double denim trend (think more Alexa Chung, less Brian Adams).
Jumping on the proverbial bandwagon is Chloé. The French label has rereleased its Susanna ankle boots, the 2009 phenomenon that saw every fashionista worth her birkin sporting the country inspired leather boots with goldtone stud detail and a trio of buckle straps.
Predictably, like all big trends, the highstreet has been quick to follow, offering similar country inspired ankle boots for a fraction of the astronomical £850 you have to fork out for the original Chloé Susannas (interestingly over £200 more expensive than when the boots were released in 2009!). But are these high street versions imitation or inspiration?
Above – the Office Nighthawk-retailling at £28. Triple buckle? Check. Studded pattern on toe and side? Check (pattern looks pretty much identical). Stacked heel? Check. Verdict – Copy!
This one is from American label Steve Madden. Triplebuckles? Check. Stacked heel? Check. Studded design? Check. Though, we do note the design formation of the Steve Madden boot is quite different to the Chloe boot. Verdict – inspiration.
There’s a host of other replicas out there. Statistics show this weakens the demand for the original but what do you think – would these inspired and copied versions turn you off buying the real thing?
