Move over tangerine tango, there’s a new colour in town. The colour of 2013 is Emerald, and, according to Pantone it’s “Lively. Radiant. Lush… A colour of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well being, balance and harmony.”
So if you are feeling the effects of too many mince pies, tins of roses and Irish coffees post Christmas, forget the detox, a new green frock may be all you need to feel better. Wigsandgowns are huge fans of Emerald and that’s not just because we’re Irish! Its a shade that suits all skin tones, and can be teamed with pretty much any other shade, unlike tangerine which was difficult to work on paler complexions and clashed with half the spectrum. Emerald is a great alternative to black for evening wear (who can forget Keira Knightly in that green dress in 2007′s Atonement).
Pantone is the world-renowned authority on colour. Since 2000, they have declared a ”Color of the Year”. But how do they decide what it is? Well it’s all a bit James Bond. Twice
a year the company hosts, in a European capital, a secret meeting of representatives from various nations’ colour standards groups. After two days of presentations, debate and discussion the delegates choose a color for the following year -he colour purportedly connects with the zeitgeist, that is the, mood of the time. So while 2011′s colour Honeysuckle was chosen to lift our spirits in times of stress, Emerald represents growth and prosperity, in what will hopefully be the year that the world finally claws it way out of recession.
If the idea of head to toe Emerald is a little Wizard of Oz for you, try injecting the colour in to your outfits with accessories or makeup. This is the also the perfect way to introduce the colour to your work wardrobe. Wigsandgowns are loving these earrings from Kenneth Jay Lane and if the budget stretches, maybe these Alexander McQueen shoes will work their way into our wardrobe….
