Move over Philip Treacy. Irish fashion is having a moment and this time it’s all about the up and coming emerging designers. The words on everyone’s lips at London Fashion week were ‘Simone Rocha’ (who didn’t fall in love with that pink princess coat) and we haven’t read a fashion magazine in at least a year that didn’t mention Derry man J.W. Anderson. It seems we weren’t the only ones to notice and, in response to the fashion world’s love of Irish designers, the Irish Embassy in London in association with curators Gemma Williams and Lizzie Glendinning are showcasing a new generation of Irish designers this summer.
Rian Exhibition will take place throughout late June and through July and features a number of cutting-edge designers whose work represents a new direction in Irish design and acts as a response to contemporary questions of Irish cultural identity. The exhibition features Irish designers making waves in London and includes a whole host of innovative talent including the wonderful Joanne Hynes, leather accessories designer Una Burke and bespoke knitwear designer Derek Lawlor.
The multi-venue fashion exhibition will be held throughout London including a space at Canary Wharf Malls and The Marylebone Hotel and will kick off at the Irish Embassy on June 26th 2013.
Here at Wigsandgowns we are always on the look out for new and exciting design talent and can’t wait to see what the next generation of Irish designers has to offer. Stay tuned to Wigsandgowns throughout the next month for more updates on this cutting edge display of emerging Irish designers. www.rianexhibition.com
