Michelle Obama was the surprise winner of best dressed at Sunday night’s Oscars. Via satellite, America’s first lady presented the best picture award to Chin Affleck for his fact based thriller Argo in a sleek silver Naseem Khan dress, which revealed her toned arms and a hint of cleavage.
But not everybody was impressed with Mrs O’s sartorial choice. Fars News, Iran’s semi-official new agency, photoshopped images of the First Lady, adding a high neck and sleeves to her dress. Rules dictate that Iranian women shown on Iran’s state television should have a hijab that covers their hair, arms and legs. This rule varies for foreigners. When Iranian media wish to show an image that contravenes these rules it is not unusual for Photoshop to be used.
Indian-born Naseem Khan was inducted as a member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2008. Known for his impeccably cut gowns – all embroidered by hand – Khan is a regular on the red carpet with A list fans including Beyonce, Emily Blunt and Kate Beckinsale.
