Looks like Jay Z can add yet another problem to those other 99 he’s always complaining about. Mr Beyonce is being sued for trademark infringement by the New Jersey-based company Hood Love, a for-profit company dedicated to improving poverty stricken communities. The company has held the trademark for Hood Love since 2006 and they argue that a T-shirt in Jay Z’s Rocawear line, which reads ‘HoodLove’ in giant letters, infringes it.
The claim alleges that the “unauthorized use of the Infringing Apparel is likely to cause confusion” and “deceive customers” into mistakenly believing that the Rocawear t-shirts are affiliated with Hood Love.
Hoodlove is suing for all profits from the shirts and their immediate removal from store shelves. Don’t expect an update on this one – we’ve no doubt a settlement will be agreed pretty soon!
