The fashion industry was full of praise for Jeremy Scott’s A/W 2013 collection shown last week in New York. The collection featured his usual quirky designs, this time reminiscent of eighties skateboard culture. But hold on a minute, are these designs a little too familiar?
Jimbo Phillips, the artist that designed some of the most iconic and well-known Santa Cruz skateboard graphics during the eighties seems to think so. He was shocked to discover that most of the graphics featured in Scott’s collection were in fact designed by him!
Yesterday he took to his Facebook page to share the similarities between his own work and the designs in Scott’s fashion show. The caption reads ‘This is crazy!”
Over the years Phillips has collaborated with some big brand names including Puma, SkullCandy headphones and Stance Socks but this time it looks like there was no collaboration or licensing agreement- just theft of Phillip’s designs.
Stay tuned for further updates on this fashion lawsuit waiting to happen.
