We’re sorry to report that one of the most anticipated lawsuits of the year will not be going to court after all. Lady Gaga and her former assistant/best friend Jennifer O’Neill have settled out of court and we won’t get to enjoy the theatrics of Gaga in court.
O’Neill had claimed that she put in 7,168 hours of unpaid overtime during two stints working for Gaga — who was listed in the suit under her real name, Stefani Germanotta — and was owed more than $393,000, plus damages. O‘Neill was paid a salary of $75,000 for her time with the singer and, according to her complaint, she was not given breaks for meals ‘or, at times, even sleep,’ and needed to be available at the star’s ‘earliest waking hour’ or for ‘spontaneous, random matters in the middle of the night,’ according to the court papers.
Gaga denied O’Neill’s claim and stated “you don’t get a schedule that is like you punch in and you can play f–king Tetris at your desk for four hours and then you punch out at the end of the day. This is — when I need you, you’re available.” She also claims that O’Neill did not appreciate the perks of being her assistant and that “she slept in Egyptian cotton sheets every night, in five-star hotels, on private planes, eating caviar, partying with Terry Richardson all night, wearing my clothes, asking YSL to send her free shoes without my permission, using my YSL discount without my permission.”
We were surprised the suit wasn’t settled earlier but it seems this one was personal. Gaga has revealed O’Neill is not only her former assistant but her best friend since she was 19. The pop diva apparently called her a “f**king hood rat” under oath in a Manhattan law office and sources say Gaga’s court deposition was filled with hours of swearing and verbally attacking O’Neill’s character. This would have been one interesting trial!
Perhaps it was her previous reference to sleaze bucket Terry Richardson that prompted the settlement on Gaga’s side. Richardson, fashion’s favourite photographer, has been accused multiple times of sexual exploitation of young models and is currently the subject of an internet petition requesting brands to effectively remove him from the fashion industry pending investigation into these allegations. Suddenly Gaga’s claims that partying with ‘Uncle Terry’ was payment in kind don’t look so good…
