Mrs Orlando Bloom has been revealed as one of the real-life targets of the Hollywood Bling Ring gang. The gang, who were fame-obsessed teenage girls, used the internet to track celebrities’ whereabouts in order to rob their homes. Between October 2008 and August 2009 the gang stole about $3 million in cash and belongings. Victims were targeted that were considered fashion icons by members of the group. Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson and Megan Fox were some of the gang’s favourite targets. It’s now been discovered that Supermodel Kerr had her lingerie stolen by the gang; an obvious choice, given her Victoria’s Secret Angel status!
“Their obsession with underwear had something to do with this whole pornification thing. They wanted to look sexy – and looking sexy in a celebrity’s clothes, well that’s even sexier. Especially Miranda Kerr’s,” said Nancy Jo Sales, the Vanity Fair reporter who first exposed the ring back in 2010.
Sales has now documented the events in a gripping new book—an extended narrative of her original piece entitled “The Bling Ring” which will be released on 21 May, 2013. The book also forms the basis of Sophia Coppola’s film of the same name, which will premiere at the Cannes film festival tonight. The movie was written, produced and directed by Coppola and stars Emma Watson. It is scheduled to be released in the UK on June 14, 2013.
