Our favourite department stores, Selfridges on London’s Oxford Street, has been the victim of a smash and grab raid. The luxury department store was attacked at about 8.30pm on Tuesday night, just half an hour before the store closed. A group of men armed with axes smashed open the glass cabinets on Selfridges’ ground floor before taking off on mopeds with jewellery and watches. Luckily, nobody was hurt in the attack.
Two people were later arrested after they came off a moped near Goodge Street and were prevented from fleeing by members of the public. One man was reportedly dressed in full motorcycle gear while a second man was dressed in a burka. London Ambulance sent one ambulance and one single response unit to Oxford Street. Police apprehended both suspects.
Selfridges took to twitter to update worried customers. “Hi, we just want to let you know that everyone is safe and the police are investigating. We will update you once we have more information.”
